The mission of the Florida Oncology Patient Assistance Foundation is to ease the financial burden of patients with oncological and/or hematological needs within our community.
Our Foundation has been created to assist patients diagnosed with cancer or life-threatening blood disorders with their unmet financial needs. Eligible patients in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia now have a resource to obtain short-term financial assistance when hardships arise due to the medical costs of dealing with their disease.
Inspired by the desire of a patient’s husband, who wanted to assist other cancer patients with their disease-related financial burdens, a group of individuals at Florida Oncology Associates joined together to create a foundation to help him achieve his goal. Working with cancer patients on a daily basis, they recognized that some of the financial needs of cancer patients are not met by insurance companies or government-funded medical programs. A diagnosis of cancer can mean loss of a job. A spouse may have to leave work to become a caregiver. Co-pays and deductibles can deplete the family savings very quickly. Sadly, some patients may have to choose between paying the rent, child care expenses, transportation costs and even paying for food, instead of paying for their needed medications. Working with pharmaceutical companies, chemotherapy drugs and other medications have been obtained for these patients, but until now, oftentimes other financial assistance has been unavailable to them. The Florida Oncology Patient Assistance Foundation was specifically established to ease the short-term financial burdens of these patients. The foundation will assist with expenses such as rent, mortgage, electricity, telephone, car/car insurance payments. The foundation will not cover expenses such as medical or credit card payments.
Your tax-deductible contribution will directly benefit cancer and/or hematology patients with financial hardships who live in the Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia region. Through the foundation, patients who complete the grant application and meet the financial guidelines established will be eligible to receive financial assistance in the form of a grant. Funds will be distributed directly to the company or companies who are owed money by the patient. The foundation administrators will distribute payments to applicable receivers within a week or two of patient grant approval, thereby acting quickly to alleviate the financial hardship of patients. The Community Foundation, Inc., Florida is a not-for-profit organization exempt from federal income taxation pursuant to the provisions of section 501© 3 of the United States Tax Code of 1986 and the Treasury regulations issued thereunder as ammended from time to time. The Community Foundation assists donors and their charitable causes by providing strategies for giving. Established in 1964, The Community Foundation is the oldest community foundation in Florida. It was previously known as the Jacksonville Community Foundation.
